One day, I decided to quit my job which had me working full time along with school full time because I was concerned about failing classes. Then I got worried that we'd have NO money so I decided to apply to a part time job... as a model. It was an open thing and I got accepted for a test shoot. and by accepted I mean I had actually applied for a sales job but they told me I should be a model.
When I was younger I had sworn off modeling as even a possible profession because I feel like the industry in general tries to make women feel bad about themselves. I am naturally tall and skinny. I do not want any girl to feel less pretty just because she is not as skinny as me. I am not sure I could ever be happy knowing that I made other women feel bad about themselves, since I really think that there are SO MANY beautiful women, that just don't believe that they are.
But... this was a gig with only one boutique, and they seemed to have a variety of models. It seemed ok.
So then I got to the test shoot, the first thing I noticed is that we were supposed to model A LOT of tank tops. I am not exactly a tank top wearer even during the summer. I'm a lot more comfortable covering those shoulders up. But luckily they had me try on some jackets first for my shoot. Phew.
The second thing I noticed was that every girl actually working there had some seriously large boobs. Like I am talkin D's and double D's, and most were as skinny as me! I am a solid B cup. Me and my photographer joked with each other about being small chested. She was awesome.
Then they asked me to wear a tank top... With a sheer back... then they added a bracelet. Tiny wrist+ Giant bangle = not the best look. Especially when the "model" in question is way uncomfortable in this super sheer tank top. I'm pretty sure the photos were more of me grimacing and looking uncomfortable than of me smiling.
Afterwards they told me I did a great job and that they would contact everyone within a week.
A week came and went before I finally got an e-mail of rejection. They were "going a different way." To be honest, I was relieved. I felt like I had been compromising my morals for a job.
Soon after receiving the e-mail of rejection I received a different e-mail... My photo and submission had been accepted onto http://www.stopobjectification.com/ !!!! Perfect timing. There is nothing wrong with modeling, I have many friends who are amazingly beautiful models. But I was really uncomfortable modeling tank tops and that feeling of being objectified. I have been objectified so many times in my life, and I want to be so much more than "cute and skinny" which is my most common compliment. I want to be a great mom to my future children, I want to be a great teacher who cares about her students, I want to make a difference in the world, and not be someone else's clothing advertisement.
Alright, So I have definitely gone on long enough for one night. I just wanted to share these recent escapades.
Please enjoy this picture of puppy and my bearded dragon lizard 'almost' looking like friends!

Cheesy Quinoa
Be still my beating heart, I have found a new favorite dish to cook. It is quite possibly the most ridiculously easy thing to cook and it is SO GOOD! The hubby was obsessed. It's good to fiind something he actually Wants to eat. The man gets bored of food so much faster than I do (different cereal every week, but none of the healthy stuff! Drives me crazy) So me, being a little bit of a health nut, it is always hard to find healthy, affordable, delicious meals to make. Especially ones that take less than half an hour to make, cause let's face it Who has the time? between juggling school, work, internships, and an attempted social life it is nearly impossible to eat healthy on a budget. That's why this dish is so perfect! I am a huge fan of quinoa, ever since I realized I am gluten intolerant it has become a staple in my diet. Also, it is super fast and easy to cook! I have made it twice in the past week, I cannot get enough.
The best part about quinoa is that it is SO EASY to cook! I just put a cup of quinoa and 2 cups of water in a pot, get it to boiling, then turn it to low and put a lid on it for about 12 minutes. Always fluffy every time.
So i got the original recipe from this awesome blog here
The best part about it though is that you can definitely change it up a ton! So when hubby and I made it the first time I lessened the cream cheese (and used the low-fat kind), used extra sharp cheddar because it has less lactose and added in some hillshire farms sausage slices to up the protein content! Also next time, since hubby liked it so much, I'm going to sneak in a bunch of vegetables ;) just to get that extra serving of vegetables into the day. Hubby even made the suggestion of having it be our contribution to Thanksgiving dinner with the family! That's when I know it is a successful recipe.

Five Things Friday
Things I am obsessed with right now
first off, leather pants, or pretty much leather anything. So obsessed. Something about fall makes me love it even more than normal! (All vegan, of course) and then there's the booties, a girl can never have too many. Oh, and have i mentioned the faux fur vests? so dang cute!
Another thing I am loving right now are these super cute pillowcases! his and hers... These ones are from Etsy. I might just have to make some his and her pillows of my own for hubby and my room
and the fifth thing is my favorite quick at home workout video
it's only 10 minutes, but it is great!

Hubby's Birthday
Today is the hubby’s birthday!!!! After the amazing birthday
surprises my husband had given me on My birthday, I wanted to have something
just as exciting for him. This is his first birthday with us being a married
couple! I came up with a game plan. Most of my plan depended on me having some
time with our shared car where I could secretly get a couple needed things from
the store. Weeeeeellll, Hubby’s best friend got him an early present of a
computer game, Starcraft, that they both really like. So any opportunity I had
to go alone down to work/school was suddenly gone, since hubs wanted to go play
with his friend during the few times he wasn’t at school at the same time as me.
With finals stress and everything going on the past couple weeks, I was willing
to let him de-stress a bit with friends. But that meant no time to
be able to take the car! Last night I thought I would have it. I was going to a
bachelorette party. But hubby planned a man date while I was at the party. So I
came up with plan B! I would keep the husband awake really late, and thennnn
wake up early, knowing that he would sleep in till at least 10. Brilliant! So I
kept him out with friends till after midnight, and then kept him awake at home
as long as I can. At 1 or 1:30 hubby fell fast asleep. I… couldn’t sleep for a while.
Eventually exhaustion overcame and I fell asleep. I woke up at 5 feeling hot
, stressed and uncomfortable, but soon fell back asleep. I dreamed that my husband woke up
early and wouldn’t leave me alone for 5 minutes so I could get his birthday
surprise ready. I officially woke up at 8, carefully got dressed and left the
room making no more noise than a mouse. Didn’t even get close to waking up the
husband. Success!... I went out to the living room where I finished writing my
24 love notes to him. I know, super cute right? I then remembered that I left
the envelopes in the bedroom, so I snuck back in. It was 8:30. Husband was
AWAKE! What the? This is the man who can sleep till noon any chance he can get,
and it being his birthday, I knew he wanted more sleep. “Good morning sweetie,”
I said cheerfully, “what are you doing awake?” Hubby replied “I heard lots of
footsteps upstairs, and they woke me up.” Drat it all. “Oh, I’m sorry hun, well
I am going to the store, we are out of toothpaste. You go back to sleep.” He laughed,
“you are going to the store to get toothpaste?” he said with a skeptical smirk.
I smiled. “Among other things, now go back to sleep if you want any birthday
surprises.” He chuckled, then asked me to go grab him some juice since he was
obviously not allowed out of the room yet. I readily agreed. While pouring him
the white grape juice, his parents come quietly down the stairs, “is he awake?”
they ask. I say yes and continue pouring his juice. I hear them sing happy
birthday as I put the carton back in the fridge. “Come see him open presents”
his mom said happily in the doorway. I was kinda excited to see him open
presents, even if I did think he should still be asleep. Hubby has a new phone
now! That can take non blurry photos! Exciting! After the morning excitement,
he was still in bed, I handed him the cup of juice and he agreed to play with
his new phone until I had done the shopping and set up everything. Well, the
surprise factor was gone, but at least he didn’t know EVERYTHING about it. I
was so tired. But I got the toothpaste, envelopes and balloons. The envelope
thing was pretty dang cool in my opinion. I kind of suck at blowing up
balloons. But when he finally came out and read my notes of reasons why I love
him, he was so happy. Made it so worth it, even if it wasn’t as Much of a
surprise as I wanted it to be. I seriously love this man.
The rest of the day was absolutely awesome :) we went and saw the movie 42, which was so well done, I highly recommend it for everyone. Best baseball movie ever. And then did a bit of shopping and dinner with the family. All in all, a great day.

hey y'all! So, I am super excited for spring! Also, I changed three times today. and not like, while I was trying to decide what to wear today, which is pretty normal for me.
The first outfit was slobbered to the point of unrecognizability by this little bundle of puppy love
At least we got a couple of cutey cute pictures together! (Thanks Hubby!) I love my little drool monster! Baby puppy is teething and is drooling even More than usual. And as a Saint Bernard, drooling is already one of his specialties.
Also, this is puppy doing pretty much his FAVORITE thing in the whole world! chewing stuff.
Happy Wednesday y'all!

I didn't take pictures of outfits two or three. The second outfit was some puppy friendly shorts and a t-shirt combo that could handle the drool and nibbling factor. Outfit three came when I realized I still had to go out at night (apartment hunting, Yay!) so I tossed on some jeans, and a button up.
In other news hubby is a pro at making things and we are now doing this cool composting thing while breeding phoenix worms for our Bearded Dragon! Gross and cool all at the same time ;)
Happy Wednesday y'all!

Good Things come in 3's
So I was trying to be SO GOOD at this whole consistently writing a blog thing, but between travelling and getting a new job things have been kind of crazy, but a good kind of crazy. So first off.... I have a job!!!!! soooooo excited! I am now a seamstress at a bridal shop (basically my dream college job) and I thought life and jobs could not even get better. But there's more ;) they say all good things come in three's right? This would be number one.
Number two on the list of thing's that have made the past week amazing is traveling to Idaho and Montana. Not gonna lie, I was NOT excited for this trip. I knew it was going to be a lot of work and a lot of time spent on a bus. gross. but then I got there. In Idaho I got to see one of my very best friends growing up. Then Montana was just breathtakingly beautiful and the people were wonderful! It was such a fun ballroom show to put on. If I ever decide to move somewhere cold, that will be where I move. This picture is of the little town we stayed in. Complete with the flashing light, the only light in town. Love it!
Then number three thing is just a hope and a wish and a prayer. I have had a dream of creating a clohing company using all ethical materials (I will do some much more extensive posts on this later) and I ran into some students at BYU with the same dream. I discussed my love of sustainable clothing with the guy and how I would love to do what him and his team are doing, and well, they actually could use some help!!! I am More than willing to give my time to do whatever I can. I will also write more about this company as soon as their website is finished. The ideas they have are brilliant though, and I am so excited about this!
So basically, I am going to be busy beyond all reason in the upcoming months, but I will still try to blog consistently, and tell you all about my sewing adventures.
Also in other news, Hubby finished making our little dragon baby's new terrarium!! Gogy is now officially the dragon king ;) hubby has got some serious skills. we are still going to add an awesome background, just got to get it printed. Gogy Loves it though! Such a happy dragon.

Fave Five Friday!
Good morning world :) I am surprisingly chipper for getting less than 5 hours of sleep. Today is Friday!!!! Which means I am going to Finish some of my projects :) Currently refashioning a large men's shirt into a peplum shirt (I will add on more details as soon as I finish) And I am creating a new school bag! I go through school bags like nobody's business, they have to be pretty sturdy to last long, and I have a preference for cuteness, so making my own seemed like the best option. Not to mention I am creating a detatchable clutch (Which I am feeling pretty clever about), it's taking longer than expected however, as I decided to use a lot of leather accenting, and it has to all be hand-sewn.
Today I would like to start Fave Five Friday! Where I showcase five of my favorite things I came across this week
1) This craft project (for all of the summer travels) in the Martha Stewart Living Magazine, March issue

2) Manvelope, and Ascot. I plan to convince hubby to start wearing ascots. As they are super attractive, and hubby could totally pull off this look.
3) This houndstooth turban. Gorgeous

4) Long hair faux hawks :) I have my own version with braids and curly hair to pretty it up a bit but here's a basic tutorial and pic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utLuiqJRwso

5) This backsplash, really brightens up the place when (like me) you don't have a window there

Also, enjoy this picture I took for the weekly photo challenge I do with Mamacita :) This week's challenge was to get a nature shot.
Happy Friday Y'all!!

First post!
Since this is my first blog post (yay!!) I figured I should introduce myself. My name is Anna and I love clothes. I am about the height and weight of the average supermodel, which would be great if I was a model, but all the clothes that fit me well are usually super duper expensive cause they are made for runways. Pretty much everything I buy, I either alter. Or refashion. Or I just sew my own clothes :) Sewing is one of my main passions in life, starting out at age three, when I made a pattern and socks for a baby doll I had. My mom didn't even know. I've always been pretty independent that way, and didn't want baby doll's feet to get cold.
I got married last May to the most incredible guy ever!! I'll refer to him on here as the hubby, or husband, or my sweetheart. He is a stick like me (our poor future children will be so skinny), and the man has got some serious style. My first thoughts on meeting him in his button up orange shirt, jeans, and some grey loafers was just how impressed I was that he looks good in orange, and he seems so confident! After one week of dating I decided I was going to marry him, and luckily for me, he eventually agreed that he was going to marry me too.

My husband and I have a pet bearded dragon named Gogy (I call him Goginator or Sweet Pea), and I will likely post some pictures of some projects we have done and will do for him (I mean, even a lizard needs a sweet living area and a halloween costume)

Another important thing anyone reading this is that I LOVE Disney. Hubby and I got engaged at Disneyland, went on a Disney cruise and Disneyworld for our honeymoon, and went to the Disney resort in Hawaii for New Years. Not to mention our avid Disney movie watching, etc. Yeah, hubby and I are total Disney freaks. I like to think of myself as a Disney Princess, just starting my happily ever after with the husband. (I know, I'm kind of a cheese ball) Often I will think of certain princesses or characters in designing my outfits or style. My two very favorites Disney heroines that I feel a strong connection with our Cinderella and Megara (at least, currently)
Basically, Meg embodies most of my personality.

My husband is amazing :) please ignore my outfit, I really should have thought to bring a cute jacket instead of having to borrow my father-in-law's. Who knew California would be cold in November?
Basically, Meg embodies most of my personality.
and life.
Last, but not least, y'all should know I am a southern girl. Raised in Texas on the outskirts of Houston. I have both inner city experience, and a little bit of country in me. Like most Texans, I am proud to be a Texan. I currently live in Utah for college, but that does not make me any less Texan.
p.s. I am REALLY wishing I could be at rodeo right now.
Now enjoy this picture of grumpy cat
Have a nice day!
